Additional Information
Dress and Grooming: Classical dancers are traditionally very clean, neat and simply groomed. Long hair needs to be pulled back from the face. Creative Movement and Primary Levels must not have any dangling hair around the face and eyes but must have it clipped well back from the face if a ponytail is not possible. Elemenary 1 and above, students must have hair either in a bun or well-clipped back if hair is either too short for a bun or dangles out of the bun.
No adornments in class please, except for very tiny and nondescript earrings. No fancy hair accessories! Black leggings may be worn in class with permission on colder days. Regulation wrap sweaters may also be worn.
Class dress requirements are listed on the Dress Requirements page.
Performance: We have a happy, family attitude about performance, while encouraging as professional an atmosphere as possible for our young dancers. Plan on gathering for high tea at our mid-year class demonstration and a choreographed recital after Session 4. Most costuming is provided by CBA and will be retained by CBA. If you know you are going to miss a performance, please let Ms Sarah know in timely fashion as it is challenging to cast and create the sort of performances we do! When a dancer goes missing, it affects the entire class... however, we do know sometimes it is unavoidable in cases of sickness or emergency.
Pointe Work: while pointe work is possible and carefully pursued in this school, it is not advisable for every child. We require the physical evaluation of a dance podiatrist and we do not encourage any student to feel they need to learn or master pointe. Second year Elementary 2 parents can expect a "pointe night" to discuss what is involved with pointe work and answer questions.
Other forms of dance: at this time, ballet is what we offer! However, the syllabus we use does expose and help prepare students for the pursuit of other forms of dance, which is important today. A ballet background helps every child achieve the highest standard of excellence in many other forms of dance as well as in other dance-related attainments. Certain sports can benefit a lot too!
To reach an advanced standard in ballet is an immense achievement.
Inclement Weather: We will generally follow the Lake Washington School District closures for the Sammamish Plateau.
